Your Pregnancy Journey: What to Expect

An estimated due date (EDD) is calculated by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). Remember, this is just an estimate—only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date!

First Trimester (Weeks 1-12)

This is a time of rapid development for your baby. For you, this period can bring symptoms like morning sickness and fatigue. It's crucial to:

  • Start Prenatal Vitamins: Folic acid is especially important to prevent birth defects.
  • Schedule Your First Prenatal Visit: Your doctor will confirm the pregnancy and outline your care plan.
  • Rest and Hydrate: Listen to your body. Get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water.

Second Trimester (Weeks 13-27)

Often called the "honeymoon" phase of pregnancy, many women feel their energy levels return. You'll likely start to feel your baby move for the first time! Important considerations include:

  • Anatomy Scan: Around 20 weeks, an ultrasound is performed to check the baby's development.
  • Healthy Diet: Focus on a balanced diet rich in iron, calcium, and protein.
  • Gentle Exercise: Activities like walking, swimming, and prenatal yoga are excellent choices.

Third Trimester (Weeks 28-40+)

You're in the home stretch! The baby is continuing to grow and gain weight. It's time to prepare for arrival:

  • Monitor Fetal Movement: Pay attention to your baby's kicks and report any changes to your doctor.
  • Attend Childbirth Classes: These can help you and your partner prepare for labor and delivery.
  • Pack Your Hospital Bag: Have everything ready to go for the big day.
